Troubleshooting

  • An Android TV Box, sometimes known as a Smart TV box, Multi Media Box or a Smart Box, from Android TV Guys, is the latest in home entertainment, it’s a small multi media box, that plugs into your existing TV’s HDMI port (with supplied cable), connects to your broadband (minimum 6-7mb/s), through Wireless or Ethernet cable (not supplied) to give you a complete world of entertainment by turning your existing TV into a Smart TV allowing you to stream internet content straight to your television. Visit our shop page for details. Nothing can compensate for slow internet speed, it is the Kryptonite of the Streaming device world! If you always have issues with videos that buffer frequently, especially with higher quality videos, you may want to check what Internet speed you get with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). To do this, go to Speedtest.net and run a test or click on the pre-installed Speedtest App if you have it.
  • As a guide, you will require a minimum speed of 6mbps, but the higher the better! This also does not take into account other users accessing YouTube, Gaming etc. from the same connection at the same time. While this will eliminate some problems, it won’t fix everything because many times the bottleneck is not your home’s Internet connection, but the server on the other end which may be either overloaded from too many people streaming from it, being a dead link or simply a terrible internet upload speed on the other end, a common occurrence within Kodi and apps generally.
  • Disconnect the power cable entirely for 30 seconds and reboot it, this solves many issues.
  • If you want to get a VPN service please search on google to find your best option, however at ATG Guys we use IPVanish. Click on any of the IPVanish links on the Website to join ASAP.
  • Disconnect the power cables from both the Router and TV Box entirely and leave disconnected for 2 minutes.
  • Restart your router and TV Box.
  • On the home screen of the box you will see a Wifi signal, this should be illuminated green rather than grey. – Check your connected to your wifi network in settings.
  • Go to the home screen of the box.
  • Click on the Cog wheel icon on the home screen that will take you into settings.
  • Scroll across to network and click on it using the android button on the middle of the remote.
  • On the right hand side of the network options you will see “Wireless Network” and Wired Connection”.
  • Under the “Wireless Connection” it should state “connected”. If not, follow the remaining steps;
  • Go into Wireless Network and select it
  • Check the Wifi is turned off click to turn on and let it scan for networks
  • Select your Network and click on it to connect
  • Type in your network password using the keyboard remote, Click enter and connect. When successful it will display a message under the network name saying “connected”
  • Go to the home screen of the box and check the top left hand corner for the wifi symbol checking it is illuminated
  • Plug in the box and turn on as per the User Manual.
  • Power cord and HDMI to be connected to the power socket and TV respectively.
  • Turn on and load until the Home screen appears.
  • Click on the Cog wheel icon on the home screen that will take you into settings.
  • Scroll across to network and click on it using the android button on the middle of the remote.
  • On the right hand side of the network options you will see “Wireless Network” and Wired Connection”.
  • Go into wireless network and click on the Network name that you are trying to connect to.
  • If wifi is turned off click on the option to turn on and wait for it to scan for available networks.
  • Click on the network name and type in the password key.
  • Click enter and connect, when successful it will display a message under the network name saying “connected”.
  • Go to the home screen of the box and check the top left hand corner for the WiFi symbol checking it is illuminated.

  • We recommend a speed of 6 -7 mbps or more to ensure you get the most from the android box. For this reason I have installed the Speedtest App on the homescreen or by visiting www.speedtest.net.
  • If  you have any issues regarding buffering or speed in general, please run the Speedtest to either confirm or  eliminate Internet Speed as a cause. Basically, the faster the internet the faster the content can load on the box.

If your Speedtest result is below 6 mbps, please do the following;

  1. REMOVE THE POWER CABLE (Don’t simply turn power off, actually DISCONNECT ALL power cables from both devices) from both your Android box AND your Modem/Router.
  2. Leave all power disconnected for 1 minute.
  3. Reconnect all cables and reboot boxes.
  4. Re-do the Speedtest to check results.
  5. Re-try either Terrarium/Showbox or YouTube to judge improvements.

IF Buffering persisits please consider the following;

  • Try a different link to the same program as the reason may be the source  of the file.
  • Try a different Appsuch as YouTube.
  • Try an Ethernet Cable if possible as the speed is the same at both ends. WiFi signal however deteriorates immediately and declines in strength over the journey from the Router to the Android Box,
  • Consider a WiFi Repeater (Available on this Website) or a Powerline Adaptor to deliver the internet through your electrical wiring.

Please note that a slow Internet Speed is Kryptonite to Android Streaming devices! Without sufficient Speed you will have a difficult and frustrating experience.

  • Remove the power cable from the box entirely -NO CABLE CONNECTED TO BOX-.
  • Restart the box after 30 seconds of disconnection.
  • Hit the “home” button on keyboard and click on the large red “clear memory”  (X96/X96 Mini) icon on the far right side. Press the icon after every session as it helps a lot with system speed.
  • Check HDMI cable (REMOVE AND RECONNECT) is secure in both back of the box and the back of the television
  • Restart the box and reload video
  • Make sure Keyboard is charged well as lights stop working when Keyboard is low on Battery. Click on the FN+F2 buttons and the lights will work. Keep pushing F2 to scroll through colour options.
  •  On the box home screen click up to the top right where the time is displayed. (Or alternatively click on the settings (gear icon) and click down into  Date and Time settings button)
  • Click down to ‘Select Time zone’ and click into this and then scroll down to +8:00 Perth
  • Click either 24 hours Time format on or off for your preference.
  • From Device home screen click Settings (gear icon)
  • Down to add account
  • Add Gmail account (or one of your selection on screen)
  • Follow on screen prompts and put in details
  • using mouse button on remote and click ‘accept’
  • Turn back up off if it comes up
  • Click next
  • Google account should now be added
  • Go to all apps on home screen and then find ‘Play Store’ icon
  • If you want to remove this account like I do here follow the onscreen prompts near the end of the video. It is good practice to remove your account to prevent any auto updates of apps that you do not want (such as when Kodi is updated to the system)

At the moment, the most reliable solutions for Soaps, TV Series and Movies are;

  • Terrarium TV
  • Showbox
  • Kodi!
  • Yes there are many LIVE Sports and TV channels -BUT- AFL, EPL, FI, Moto GP, Boxing etc. can be hit and miss in terms of buffering, as well as being SD only –NOT HD- so keep that in mind. It doesn’t matter what box you buy, it’s just the nature of the beast with free streams unfortunately! I prefer to be upfront about this and that people are aware!

Are You on the Latest Versions of Kodi and the Add-on?

  • I’ve personally experienced issues where a streaming add-on completely breaks and no shows will get any links.  The issue is sometimes due to old version of Kodi or the add-on you’re using.
  • Other times, there have been issues where an update breaks the add-on, and it can sometimes be fixed by uninstalling the add-on and reinstalling it.  This happened to the Exodus add-on in late July 2016.
  • For Kodi, make sure to visit kodi.tv to check if you have the latest stable version.
  • Using Android- don’t install Kodi manually, but use the Google Play Store to install Kodi that way it stays up to date.
  • Using Windows 10- install Kodi from the Windows Store so it always stays up to date.
  • For everyone else and for those using the Amazon Fire Stick (which doesn’t have the Google Play Store), you’ll need to install your Kodi updates manually]

Have You Cleared Sources & Cache in the Add-on?

  • I’ve had issues before where none of the links for a episode would work, and it was fixed by using this tip.
  • Usually somewhere in the settings or tools section, there will be a Clear Sources and/or Clear Cache link. What this does is clear the cache of source links for episodes and movies, allowing the add-on to re-check for sources the next time.
  • Sometimes, this will bring in new source links that weren’t there before.  This will give you a higher chance of finding a good source link.

Is Your Kodi Streaming Box Too Old?  Time to Upgrade?

  • Is your Home Theater PC or Kodi box getting a bit old and slow?  Maybe it doesn’t have very much RAM, or maybe the hard drive is starting to go bad and get ridiculously slow.  These things could cause issues with video streaming simply because the computer can’t handle it.
  • If you think you might be in the market for an upgrade, check out our products, and remember the more horsepower (RAM/Processor) the better!.
  • Please note that if your system version of Android is 5.1 or below you will not be able to install any Kodi versions after 16.1. The current latest Kodi is 17.6 and 19 is just around the corner!
